4th of july.....

Hello friends
How are you? Hope you are all well

First of all a Mahoosive
thank you for all the lovely supportive  comments from my previous post here
I am so grateful for each and everyone  and
I'm so excited for what  the future holds ........... Bring it on!

This week across the pond its the celebration of Americas Independence day,
I've been really inspired by Tim Holtz  blog ( click here)
This week Tim's been posting lots of Patriotic inspiration........
I think you will agree there are some really awesome ideas!

Although I'm a Brit I thought I would try my hand at creating something to celebrate the occasion
so here's what I did....
I first of all created this hanging,.....
The base was made form corrugated cardboard which I painted with gesso

I really wanted to incorporate some of Tims new  Eclectic Elements fabric (if you have not seen it yet then hop here to see  more )
It really is beautiful fabric to work with..... and I know I'm going to need lots of it!
I made a couple of rosettes using the fabric along with some cotton muslin
(I will post a quick tutorial later in the post)

On my recent trip to NYC I went to a fabulous shop called Tinsel Trading Company
 where I bought
some trimmings along with these really cool vintage  Golden soon as I spotted them I knew I needed them!
They were perfect for this project!
I used distress powders and embossed them to the card
I used my vintage typewriter to type out the words
The stars were cut out using a sizzix die then embossed with distress powders.
I added an old rusty key and attached it with wire
I made a  another rosette and added another Eagle
Heres a quick tutorial on how to make the base of the rosette:
Take a strip of fabric
Fold in half
Sew the two ends together
Take a needle and thread and using a slip stitch sew around the base of the fabric
When you have gone all the way around pull the thread to create a gathered disc
(to add detail I added a zig zag stitch at step one)
Repeat with another fabric
I warn you they get quite addictive to make!

I had some leftovers so i decided to put them to use and create a tag card
I added more rustic stars with some burlap and vintage lace

After a really busy week......Its been a really so good to get back into the shed
I forgot how much I missed it

Wishing my friends across the pond a Happy Birthday America!
Have a fabulous week and enjoy your celebrations!

As always feel free to leave a comment
great to know you popped by!

Until next time....

Hello friends
I'm just popping into say a quickie Hello and to share some exciting news!!!
I know, I know I've been such a really bad blogger......
I'm so sorry......hoping to change that in the next few weeks
please bare with me.
Life's been really busy of late with one thing and another......
the pay the bills job,
deadlines for projects.....creating for me..... oh and being a busy mum,
trying to spin lots of  plates really does takes it toll!
In my last post I talked about making some changes.....
I was recently reminded that Life's far to short to live with regret!
so after months contemplating if I should or shouldn't
I have decided to make a BIG decision to
follow my HEART
and to dedicate more time to being creative....whooohooo!
Yes I will probably be very broke and yes it could be
what is otherwise known as a Midlife! lol
but I'm happy.........
I'm finally going to do something I love!
I will be leaving the pay the bills job in the next few weeks.......
it will be so sad to say goodbye to some really lovely people.....
but I'm soooooo super excited to be opening a new chapter in my life
and doing something I'm really passionate about
Hoping you will come along for the ride...
I've even got all clever and got myself a new facebook page,
I will  keep you up to date with workshops, teaching demos etc
feel free to like the page here

Dylusions frame

Hello friends
Hope you are all good
Its been another busy week here
my shed is upside down with what can only be described as complete mayhem!
hoping to get some much needed organisation .....I just need an extra day at the weekend!
(I'm in the process of making some big changes, hope to share that with you very soon!)

I managed to dig out my neglected Dylusions
too create a colourful frame
I painted the whole frame with Claudine Helmuths black gesso
I added some leaves to the corners stamped using Dylusions stamps and coloured with dylusion ink sprays.  I doodled some swirls using a posca pen in white.
The inside was a tag cut down then spritzed with cherry pie ink, then I added some white linen spray through a stencil,
I used my Dymo machine to print out the "No place like home"
To finish I cut out some of the bunting from the bunting stamp set and added it to the frame then added our little spider friend in Archival ink
Had lots of fun creating this ....

shabby journal pages

Hello friends
Hope you are all good
WOW its been a beautiful week here.....
the sunshine is so good for lifting the soul!
Hope the sunshine has been shining with you!

These last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind.....
After a trip of a lifetime to NYC with my family,
life is slowly beginning to return to normal ....whatever normal is lol
Ive been sooo busy catching up
and Yes I have to admit I've been suffering from the holiday blues......BIG TIME
So to take my mind off feeling blue I decided to create
some journal pages in my Dylusions journal in a shabby/ vintage style.....
I used lots of layering with old text pages from vintage books,  gesso and distress stain (Walnut stain)
I added lots of Tim Holtz Idea-logy mixed with some of my own vintage finds
The remnant rub-ons are perfect to add to idea-ology!
The images are from Tim Holtz Paper stack Lost and found

Here's another page with the quote "Not all who wander are lost"
I used gesso, distress stains, dylusions (melted chocolate) , tissue tape and cheesecloth
I added rusty wire and an old rusty key
The tag was distressed in Walnut stain ink and I added more of the
remnant rub-ons randomly to the tag.

I had to stop  myself adding more to the pages
You know when you read a book and you just cant put it down??
Well I have the same problem with journalling
I tend to phaff about a lot.....tempted to add more..... more...and more!
In the end I decided to hide my journal under the chaos of my desk but
I'm sure It will break me and I will add just a little more lol

As always feel free to leave a comment
I really do appreciate you passing by
Have a really fabulous week

Journal note book

Hello friends
Hope you are all good!
The holidays are hoo
and its back to pay the bills job tomorrow..... big sigh
and another busy week ahead!

The sun has been shining bright today and after neglecting my shed/blog
I got some much needed inky time...... its been way too long,
it felt so good to be back in my shabby shed creating!

I decided to create a  kind of journal note book thingy
made up of tags on the outside as well as the
inside to journal quick notes or quotes.

I applied modelling paste through a stencil,
after leaving it to dry I then spritzed with Dylusions inks

I then flicked different colours of the distress paints randomly over the tag
then added some Remnant rub-ons
I tore some cheese cloth and painted it using distress paint
Lots of sewing of edges using my sewing machine
I then added some layers using smaller tags and added tags to the inside for notes
I added some Idea-ology
and a vintage key from my own stash
I stamped journal using a small alphabet set and applied more rub-ons
The tag was then backed onto some black card to create a cover for the note book
I really enjoyed getting my ink on.....its been so good for the soul!
